The basic Idea behind Additive Synthesisīefore I am going to set up a basic patch in Propellerhead Reason to set up an Additive Synth module, I would like to explain what kind of behavior we might expect when throwing multiple sine waves in the a one synthesizer module. Thus creating its unique timbres if you will. Unlike any other type of synthesis (AM, FM or other forms of modulation), the modulation is driven by the sine wave itself. The main concept about additive synthesis is to use a Sine wave, but use them multiple times with different frequencies to reshape the sound. This type of synthesis is pretty old since it was used to generate the first bits and pieces of synthesizer sounds.
